FAQs

  • When does club soccer begin? When does it end?

Club soccer begins in  August and runs through May.

    • The Fall season is from August through October.
    • Winter season, which is sometimes broken up into Winter I and Winter II, generally runs from November through February.
    • The Spring season is March through May.
  • When are practices, and how many times a week does a team practice?

    Kindergarten:

For Fall and Spring, Kindergarten teams practice once a week for an hour. During winter, practices are once a week for an hour. Practice times are usually between 5:30 and 8:00. Younger teams generally scheduled in the earlier time slots.

    1st - 3rd Grade:

First grade and older teams practice twice a week for 1 hour each. During winter, practices are once a week for an hour. Practice times are usually between 5:30 and 8:00. Younger teams generally scheduled in the earlier time slots.

    Premier/Select/Competitive Teams:

Select teams practice twice a week in the fall and spring while Premier teams practice three times a week. Outdoor practices are usually 1.5 hours. • Where do Unified Legacy teams practice?

    Home Practice Facility:

Unified Legacy’s home field is currently Tiffany Hills, which is at 8300 NW Old Tiffany Springs Rd, KCMO.

    Turf Facilities:

We also use turf fields throughout the Northland, including Park Hill High School, Park Hill South, William Jewell, and St. Pius. Given limited turf, we are always exploring additional options for our teams to train on.

    Indoor Facilities:

For indoor practices, we use HyVee Arena, the Mudhouse, William Jewell College, and then Park Hill school gyms and Northland churches with gyms. Similar with turf, we are always exploring additional options, but we work to stay in or close to the Northland.

  • Are Unified Legacy’s coaches volunteers?

Generally, no. Unified Legacy works hard to find quality coaches who share a similar style of play and love of the game. We compensate them for their time, skill and coaching education. All our coaches are USSF licensed and are continuing to persue additional coaches education/licensing/training throughout their coaching journey.  A large portion of the club fees go to pay our coaches. At times, we have parents who volunteer to coach a team; these volunteer coaches are vetted equally as much as our paid coaches. We also have board members, who are unpaid volunteers, who donate their time as coaches.

  • What’s the difference between Heartland or Northland Sports Alliance (NSA) and Unified Legacy?

    Unified Legacy Club:

Unified Legacy is a soccer club comprised of teams at both recreational and competitive levels. The primary club functions are to recruit players, form teams and develop our athletes. Each Unified Legacy team is assigned an appropriate league based on team/player development, where they would have the opportunity to play games against other teams from across the metro area.

    Heartland Soccer League:

Heartland is an entity that runs competitive leagues and tournaments in the KC metro area.

    Northland Sports Alliance (NSA):

Northland Sports Alliance (NSA) is an entity that runs a youth recreational league in the Northland. It is common for Unified Legacy developmental youth teams to play in these leagues.

  • Where are games played?

    Premier/Select/Competitive Teams:

Select teams playing in the Heartland league are hosted at four complexes, exclusively on lit turf fields: Scheels Overland Park Soccer Complex; Garmin Olathe Soccer Complex; Compass Minerals Sporting Fields; and Swope Soccer Village.

    Youth/Recreational Teams:

Recreational teams participating in the Northland Sports Alliance league play at two fields: Tiffany Hills Sports Complex and Mark L. McHenry Park.

  • When are games played?

    Heartland Soccer League:

Heartland games are played on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays.

    Northland Sports Alliance (NSA) League:

NSA games are played on Saturdays and Sunday afternoons.

  • Do Unified Legacy teams play in tournaments?

Yes. A Fall and Spring tournament is included in the annual cost for players on Premier/Select teams. The Club works with the coaches to select appropriate tournament options for each team, locally and regionally.

Tournaments are an option for older recreational teams but are an additional cost.

  • Is Unified Legacy organized by grade level or birth year?

Unified Legacy generally organizes teams by birth year, even for teams playing in a recreational league with the exception of those in Kindergarten. It is the aim for all Unified Legacy teams to build toward competitive play and forming by birth year early helps keep teams together longer and able to compete without an age disadvantage.

Unified Legacy teams participate in a variety of leagues, which establish age requirements to ensure an environment conducive to fair play.

Most recreational leagues accept teams by grade level. However, competitive leagues generally follow the U.S. Soccer birth year matrix, which requires each team to play in the division that aligns with the birth year of the eldest player(s).

  • What’s the difference between a Select and a Premier team?

    Premier Teams:

Our Premier teams play in Heartland division 1 and/or higher level competitive leagues such as MRL, MPL, and ECNL.

    Select Teams:

Select teams are our competitive teams playing in Heartland division 2 and below.

  • How much does Unified Legacy cost?

Unified Legacy is a not-for-profit organization. The costs to the player are representative of the cost the club incurs in supporting the needs of our players, teams and coaches. For our most current pricing, send us an email at info@unifiedfc.org
